Technical Details

Compact S at BGHGlobal Lithotripsy Services utilizes the Dornier Compact S Lithotripter. Dornier invented lithotripsy, and we believe that the Compact S offers performance as good as any lithotripter available today, and is far superior to other equipment in the compact class.

The Compact S uses x-ray fluoroscopy as the primary means of stone localization. The x-ray is mounted on an integrated c-arm allowing visualization in two axis: c-c and p-a. Stones can be visualized and treated in-situ in all parts of the urinary tract from the bladder to the kidney.

The Compact S utilizes an electromagnetic shock wave source. This allows a wide therapeutic power range (allowing power to be gradually increased) with far less noise for the patient and treating staff. Furthermore, the electromagnetic shock wave source (EMSE) requires little maintenance and has no disposable parts. When compared to the technology used in other compact lithotripters, the Dornier Compact S has no peers:

Technology Features
Spark gap: Loud noise, high energy only, disposable electrodes, old technology
Piezoelectric: Low energy, high maintenance, complex electronics, large size
EMSE: Compact, wide energy range, high power, low maintenance, quiet, large focus volume
